About Garden and Green Festival
A festival for the Garden City
Cusano Milanino, in the heart of North Milan, is not a municipality like any other: the Milanino district was designed in the early twentieth century as one of Italy's first Garden Cities, inspired by the English urban planning model. It is therefore natural that the Garden and Green City Festival was born here in 2026, an event dedicated to the enhancement of urban green spaces and the city's plant heritage.
Where it takes place
The festival animates the symbolic green spaces of the city: Parco Matteotti, the beating heart of the event, and Villa Bigatti on Viale Buffoli, home to the exhibitions. Events also extend to Piazza Allende, where the exhibition opens on Friday evening in the presence of the authorities.
What you can do
The program combines well-being, nature, and culture. At Parco Matteotti, you can participate in outdoor yoga and tai chi sessions, paper flower and fabric drawing workshops for children, readings under the trees organized by the civic library, and guided botanical walks with Legambiente to discover the park's trees. At Villa Bigatti, you will find the group exhibition Artenatura and the presentation of the City Garden Atlas project.
A shared project
The event is organized by the Department of Culture of the Municipality of Cusano Milanino, with the support of the Department of Environmental Policies and the collaboration of the G.E. Ghirardi Botanical Garden of the University of Milan. An opportunity to rediscover, in a contemporary way, the green identity of this corner of the province of Milan.
Garden and Green Festival — edition 2026
The first edition of the Garden and Green City Festival debuts in Cusano Milanino on the weekend of May 29-31, 2026. Three days of activities dedicated to urban green spaces, spread across Parco Matteotti, Villa Bigatti, Piazza Allende, and Viale Buffoli, designed to involve citizens of all ages, associations, and local entities.

Friday, May 29
- During school hours — Parco Matteotti: activities dedicated to students
- 6:30 PM — Piazza Allende: festival inauguration with authorities and meeting dedicated to plants
- 9:00 PM — Villa Bigatti: inauguration of the group exhibition Artenatura and presentation of the City Garden Atlas project (exhibition open until Sunday)
Saturday, May 30 — morning (10:00 AM-12:30 PM)
At Parco Matteotti:
- Paper flower and fabric drawing workshops
- Yoga in the green
- Tai chi and qi gong: "Rejuvenate and find your well-being in nature" by A.S.D. Shimendian
- Botanical education sessions and workshop on urban tree care
Saturday, May 30 — afternoon (3:00 PM-6:30 PM)
At Parco Matteotti:
- Readings under the trees by the civic library
- Guided botanical walks with Legambiente
- Creative drawing and clay modeling workshops
- Plant and natural products stall
- Closing event: concert by the Santa Cecilia Musical Band
Sunday, May 31 (10:00 AM-12:30 PM)
At Villa Bigatti: exhibition visits, workshops, award ceremony for the student competition, and convivial closing event. Historical guided tours departing from Viale Buffoli.

How to get there
Cusano Milanino is served by the M5 metro line (Bignami stop) with bus connections, and by suburban lines. By car, take the exit from the Milan North ring road. Parco Matteotti and Villa Bigatti (Viale Buffoli 12) are easily reachable on foot from the center.
