The artistic ice skating gala at the Fanano Ice Palace
GalAppennino is one of the most anticipated events of the winter in Fanano, a small village in the upper Apennines in the Province of Modena, in Emilia-Romagna. Every year, in the first days of January, the Fanano Ice Palace transforms into the stage for a grand artistic ice skating gala, capable of attracting about a thousand spectators to a municipality of just three thousand inhabitants.
The formula of GalAppennino combines performances by international skating stars with live musical entertainment, in a captivating blend of lights, choreography, and performances. Established champions, young talents, and skating pairs take turns on the ice in a program designed to thrill audiences of all ages.
The soul of the event is Carolina Kostner, the most decorated Italian skater in history, who returns to Fanano every year as the guest of honour. Around her, national and international skaters perform, while the approximately fifty skaters from Polisportiva Fanano bring their energy to the ice, from the youngest to the veterans.
GalAppennino is much more than a sporting spectacle; it is an identity event for Fanano, organized by ASD Polisportiva Fanano, an organization with over two hundred members. The evening represents the heart of the Ice Palace's season, which also hosts public skating sessions, competitions, and hockey games during the winter.
Attending GalAppennino means experiencing a unique evening in the heart of the Apennine winter, between the elegance of skating and the warmth of a mountain community.
The 2026 edition of GalAppennino, the eleventh of the festival, took place on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 8:30 PM at the Fanano Ice Palace. Carolina Kostner was confirmed as the guest of honour, in an evening that combined artistic skating, music, and entertainment.
Among the guests were the young singer Mimì, a revelation from X Factor 2024, and the Californian skater Philip Warren, specializing in acrobatics. National-level athletes and the approximately fifty skaters from Polisportiva Fanano also performed, in a choreography that evoked the Olympic rings at the opening.
A unique evening on Saturday, January 3, 2026, starting at 8:30 PM at the Fanano Ice Palace.
Fanano can be reached by car from the A1 motorway (Modena Nord or Modena Sud exit) following signs for the Modena Apennines and Sestola-Fanano. The nearest train station is Modena, which is then connected by mountain bus services.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.palaghiacciofanano.it, at the Ice Palace ticket office, and at the Fanano tourist office. Advance purchase is recommended: recent editions have sold out.
The event takes place in the evening, inside the Ice Palace: warm clothing is recommended. As it is a mountain location in mid-winter, check road and weather conditions before departing.
