The week that transforms Milan into the world capital of design
Fuorisalone was born spontaneously in the late eighties as a natural extension of the Salone del Mobile into the city streets, and today it is one of the most important events in the world for design and innovation. During Milan Design Week, the Municipality of Milan (Lombardy) transforms into an immense, widespread program: over a thousand events spread across showrooms, historic buildings, museums, hidden courtyards, and repurposed industrial spaces.
The Fuorisalone experience is organized into thematic districts, each with its own identity and program. Among the main ones: Brera Design District, with hundreds of permanent showrooms and temporary installations; Tortona Design Week and Superstudio Più, historic project hubs; 5VIE in the oldest part of the city center; Isola Design District, vibrant and independent; Porta Venezia Design District; as well as realities like Alcova and BASE Milano. Each district interprets the edition's theme in its own way.
Fuorisalone lives in symbiosis with the Salone del Mobile.Milano, the major international furniture fair held on the same days at Fiera Milano Rho. While the Salone is the commercial heart of the event, Fuorisalone is its widespread and free soul, bringing design into the city streets and making it accessible to everyone, from industry professionals to curious onlookers.
Coordinated by the Fuorisalone.it platform (Studiolabo), the event attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world to Milan every year: designers, architects, companies, students, and enthusiasts. For a week, the city becomes an open-air laboratory for experimenting with the languages of contemporary design.
The 2026 edition of Fuorisalone was held from April 20 to 26, with over a thousand events spread across Milan's design districts. The guiding theme was "Essere Progetto" (Being Project), which reinterpreted design as an open and continuously evolving process rather than a finished object.
In parallel, the Salone del Mobile.Milano (April 21-26) took place at Fiera Milano Rho, featuring over 1,900 exhibitors from 32 countries. Among the most popular districts were: Brera Design District, with hundreds of initiatives; Isola Design Festival, in its tenth edition with the theme "TEN: The Evolving Now"; Porta Venezia Design District ("Design is Act"); 5VIE ("QoT - Qualia of Things"); and hubs like Tortona, Superstudio Più, Alcova, and Triennale Milano.

The events are spread throughout the city of Milan: it's best to use the ATM metro network and surface transport. The more central districts (Brera, 5VIE, Porta Venezia) are reachable on foot; Tortona is served by M2 (Porta Genova), Isola by M5 (Isola).
Most Fuorisalone events are free to enter. The Salone del Mobile at the trade fair (Rho) requires a separate ticket.
