The independent design, vintage, and upcycling festival-market by VGMT
Fuori Mercato is the most experimental format from VGMT — Vintage Market Rome, the project that has been energizing the capital's craft and vintage scene since 2008. This is no ordinary market: each edition is conceived as a unique event, hosted in a different, unconventional location in Rome, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, in the Lazio region. The core idea is to take independent productions that rarely find space in mainstream retail and bring them «out of the market»—literally, into new, unexpected spaces.
Exhibitors come from all over Italy, and the selection is carefully curated: from self-produced design to home decor items, from upcycling—the creative recovery of waste materials—to graphic illustration, as well as vintage clothing and accessories, collectible vinyl records, organic cosmetics, and small-batch botanical products.
In 2026, Fuori Mercato chose L'Opificio Italiacamp, an early 20th-century marble factory in the former Mira Lanza area, between the Ostiense and Marconi districts. It is a hub of Roman urban regeneration: an industrial space that still preserves rare marbles and period machinery, where the atmosphere of industrial archaeology dialogues with contemporary installations. The more than fifty exhibitors were arranged as immersive pop-ups, functioning more like art installations than simple market stalls.
The format goes beyond simple buying and selling. Each edition features outdoor live music sets, a carefully curated food & beverage area—in 2026 entrusted to Nonna Pia with chef Matteo Militello, serving brunch, lunch, and aperitifs—and short guided tours that recount the history of the host venue. This combination makes Fuori Mercato an experience to be enjoyed for the whole day, rather than just a quick stop.
Over the years, a community of artisans, designers, collectors, and curious visitors has built up around VGMT. The audience is diverse: young second-hand fashion enthusiasts, local families, Romans looking for a unique piece for their home, and tourists discovering a side of Rome far from the classic circuits. A focus on sustainability—reuse, giving objects a second life, and short supply chains—is a recurring theme across all editions.
Fuori Mercato is one of the best opportunities in Rome to enter spaces that are normally closed to the public: in 2025, the Botanical Garden in Trastevere, and in 2026, a 20th-century industrial factory. The entrance fee, always affordable, acts as a key to accessing little-known urban heritage. Those looking for authentic craftsmanship, curated vintage, and a vision of a city reclaiming its own spaces will find this a staple of the Roman calendar.
For the 2026 edition, the VGMT team chose L'Opificio Italiacamp at Via Luigi Pierantoni 2A, an early 20th-century marble factory in the heart of the Ostiense-Marconi urban regeneration area in Rome. A place that still preserves rare marbles and period machinery, with an industrial atmosphere where past and present overlap.
The only appointment of the year with this format took place over two days, Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The exhibitors—over fifty, with up to 58 stalls—offered furniture and home decor, creative recycled objects, illustrations and prints, vintage clothing and accessories, vinyl records, organic cosmetics, and artisanal products outside of mainstream commercial circuits.
The food & beverage area was curated by Nonna Pia with chef Matteo Militello, offering brunch, lunch, and aperitifs accompanied by outdoor live music sets. During both days, short guided tours were organized to recount the industrial past of the Opificio and show its rarest marble details.
Detailed program of sets and tour times communicated by the organization on official social media channels.
