Funkyland: an open-air disco in the heart of Persiceto
Funkyland is the big festival dedicated to the funky and groovy music and atmospheres of the 70s that annually transforms the historic center of San Giovanni in Persiceto, in the Metropolitan City of Bologna (Emilia-Romagna), into a true open-air disco. Organized by the Associazione Carnevale Persiceto APS, the event is now a regular fixture of the Persiceto summer and a reference point for lovers of vinyl, soul, funk, and disco music.
The 2026 Special Edition
The 2026 edition was a Special Edition moved to spring, spread over two days (May 28 and 29, 2026) and included in the program of Bologna Estate 2026, the initiative promoted and coordinated by the Municipality of Bologna and the Metropolitan City of Bologna. The highlight was the international concert in Piazza del Popolo, featuring a major name in 70s disco music on tour for the 50th anniversary of the iconic track "Disco Inferno".
The festival atmosphere
From late afternoon, the historic center comes alive with street food stands, bars and restaurants, cocktails and craft beers, stalls selling vinyl market items and themed accessories (wigs, glasses, 70s gadgets). In the streets and squares, numerous music stations are set up where DJs entertain the crowd until late at night, while the main stage hosts live concerts.

Persiceto and the tradition of fun
San Giovanni in Persiceto is famous for its historic Carnival and its vibrant tradition of popular festivals. Funkyland builds on this legacy, combining the dimension of a major music event with that of a town festival, capable of attracting thousands of people from all over Emilia-Romagna. The evening is designed for a broad, intergenerational audience united by the desire to dance and a passion for the unmistakable sound of the 70s.
Funkyland — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of Funkyland was a Special Edition held in spring, scheduled for May 28 and 29, 2026, in San Giovanni in Persiceto and included in the Bologna Estate 2026 calendar.
From 7 PM, the historic center came alive with street food, bars and restaurants, cocktails and craft beers, a vinyl market, and 70s accessory stalls. At 9 PM, on Piazza del Popolo, the international live concert featured the legendary disco-funk band on their tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of "Disco Inferno." Throughout the evening, until late at night, numerous DJ stations animated the town's streets.
A free shuttle service was available between the parking areas and the historic center. Free admission.

How to get there
San Giovanni in Persiceto is located in the Bolognese plain, about 25 km from Bologna. By car, it can be reached via the SS568 or the A1 motorway (exits Modena Nord or the relevant exit for the Bassa region). By train, San Giovanni in Persiceto station is on the Bologna-Verona line.
Shuttle and parking
During the event, a free shuttle service is available, connecting the parking area (via Marzocchi / via Palma, near the hospital) with the historic center. It is recommended to use the indicated parking lots and the shuttle to avoid traffic in the town center streets.
Tickets
Admission to the event is free. Food and drinks can be purchased at the street food stands.
