The festival of new comics in Misano Adriatico
Fumetti Futuri is the festival dedicated to independent, emerging, and new-generation comics that animates Misano Adriatico every spring. This seaside town in the province of Rimini, Emilia-Romagna, has become a reference point for authors, illustrators, and enthusiasts seeking a space away from large commercial fairs. Here, self-productions, fanzines, graphic novels, and experimentation with the comic language are at the center. Founded in 2024, it has quickly become a hub for the vibrant Italian independent comics scene.
The festival unfolds across two locations that reflect its spirit. The Municipal Library of Misano Adriatico hosts exhibitions, workshops, and daytime meetings with authors in an intimate and participatory atmosphere. In the evenings, the heart of the event moves to the Messicano Indipendente, a cultural space in the artisanal area that transforms into a hub for artist stalls, live presentations, performances, live drawing sessions accompanied by music, and DJ sets late into the night.
The festival's name itself is a statement of intent: to provide a space for those who are drawing tomorrow's stories today. The artistic direction is curated by Niccolò Tonelli, and the organization involves the Gruppo Educativo Territoriale of Misano Adriatico, along with the Millepiedi and Il Maestrale cooperatives and the Fuori Orario APS association, under the patronage of the Municipality of Misano Adriatico. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is informal and welcoming, characteristic of festivals created by true comic enthusiasts.
The third edition of Fumetti Futuri, dubbed "Next Gen Edition", confirmed its two-day, two-venue format. On Friday evening, after the inauguration of the "Fumettisti Futuri" exhibition at the Library, the evening moved to Messicano Indipendente with artist stalls, the presentation of Isotta Santinelli's graphic novel, a performance by Auroro Borealo, and a DJ set by BMR. Saturday featured morning workshops and an afternoon of meetings with authors and screenwriters, including Francesco Archidiacono, Roberto D'Agnano, and Lorenzo la Neve.
