A festival that enters the neighborhoods

FringeMI is Milan's distributed performing arts festival: a large container that every year, between late May and early June, brings shows out of conventional venues and into the daily life of the city. In the 2026 edition, there are 224 events spread across 17 neighborhoods of the Municipality of Milan (Metropolitan City of Milan, Lombardy), including NoLo, Dergano, Lambrate, Martesana, Adriano, Gallaratese, Calvairate Romana, Villapizzone, Barona, San Siro, Giambellino Lorenteggio, Ortica, Città Studi-Acquabella, as well as the new areas of Greco, Vigentino, Corvetto, Cenisio, Ponte Lambro, and Quinto Romano.

The stage is everywhere

The heart of the festival is the idea that theater can inhabit any space. Shows are staged in venues, bookstores, co-working spaces, private apartments, artist studios, publishing houses and radio stations, streets, squares, gardens, and even a newsstand. It's an experience that blends new dramaturgy, prose, narrative theater, song-theater, stand-up, and music, with a wide offering of family shows, book presentations, buskers, workshops, and itinerant performances.

Two souls, one city

The program is divided into two sections. The Official Program features 24 shows selected from over 300 applications received through an international call, performed in rotation for five consecutive evenings. The Fringe Extra section includes performances, meetings, and events in the preceding days, widely distributed across the neighborhoods. There is no imposed theme or centralized artistic direction: each neighborhood is managed by local entities, ensuring an authentic connection with the territory.

NoLo and Dergano, the historic hubs

NoLo, the neighborhood north of Loreto from which it all began, remains the pulsating heart of the festival and hosts the majority of events, between Factory NoLo, Parco Trotter, and the venues on Via Padova. Dergano, in Municipality 9, is one of the historic neighborhoods of the event. FringeMI is today a reference point for Milan's independent theater scene and an opportunity to discover corners of the city far from the tourist circuits.
