The children's costume parade in the heart of the Valle di Comino
Every year in February, the village of Fontechiari celebrates Carnival with a festival dedicated primarily to children. Known as the Carnival Party, the event is organized by the Pro Loco Fontechiari APS and transforms the village streets into a cheerful procession of masks, confetti, and streamers. It is one of the key highlights in the calendar of popular festivals in the municipality of Fontechiari, nestled in the heart of the Valle di Comino.
The centerpiece of the day is the costume parade, open to all children. Parents can register their costumed children using the form provided by the Pro Loco, allowing them to join the procession that winds through the town center. With imaginative disguises, vibrant colors, and plenty of music, the festival invites entire families to spend an afternoon of outdoor fun in the spirit of community typical of small villages.
Unlike large-scale carnivals featuring massive floats, the Fontechiari Carnival maintains an intimate, village-scale charm. The focus is not on spectacle, but on the direct participation of children and families, who become the true protagonists of the event. It is a meaningful way to pass down popular Carnival traditions to new generations and strengthen local community bonds through a simple, heartfelt celebration.
Located in the province of Frosinone in southern Lazio, Fontechiari is considered one of the gateways to the Valle di Comino, an area rich in nature, historic villages, and traditions. The Pro Loco Fontechiari APS, active since 1986, promotes cultural, tourist, and local development initiatives throughout the year, from summer festivals to events dedicated to local heritage. The Carnival remains one of the most anticipated moments of the winter season, bringing together young and old in the heart of the village.
Participation in the parade is open to all children in costume, subject to registration. Updated information regarding dates, times, and registration procedures is published by the Pro Loco Fontechiari on their official channels, particularly their website and the association's Facebook page.
