A taste of summer in the center of Fondi

When spring has just begun and the sea of the Gulf of Gaeta is still too cold for a swim, the Fondi Beach Festival offers a simple and successful idea: bring the beach to the city. For two days, Piazza Alcide De Gasperi, in the heart of Fondi's historic center, is set up like a real urban beach, complete with sand, umbrellas, sun loungers, themed decorations, and exhibition spaces dedicated to the coast's seaside resorts. It is an unusual and convivial way to officially kick off the summer season, weeks in advance.

A showcase for the Fondi coastline

The event was born as a showcase for the beach season: seaside resorts, kiosks, rental services, water sports schools, and businesses in the local tourism chain all come together. Those strolling through the stands can learn about the offerings of the Fondi coast, meet operators directly, discover services, promotions, and new features for the season, and perhaps even book their sun umbrella for July. For the Municipality of Fondi, as defined by the administration, it is a massive showcase for the coastline and all the economic activity that revolves around it.

The setting helps: Fondi, in the province of Latina, in southern Lazio, is a municipality that brings together the lake of the same name, the most productive agricultural plain in the region, and a coastal strip awarded multiple times with the Blue Flag. Its long, sandy beach is one of the most popular stretches of the Ulysses Riviera, between Sperlonga and Terracina.

Music, shows, and beach food

The festival is not just a fair. The two-day program alternates between exhibitions and genuine entertainment, making the square lively from morning until night:

• DJ sets and aperitifs at midday and in the late afternoon, as the square gradually comes to life
• Live music in the evening
• Street performers in the afternoon, featuring juggling and roving performances
• Free outdoor yoga, open to everyone
• Entertainment designed for children and families
• Beach food and tastings at the food and wine stands, featuring the specialties usually enjoyed under a beach umbrella in summer

The Fondi Beach Festival is a free-entry, family-friendly event that works perfectly as a day trip. If you are visiting from out of town, it is a great opportunity to explore the historic center of Fondi, which preserves the Baronial Castle with its cylindrical keep, the Giudea district—one of the best-preserved medieval Jewish ghettos in Lazio—and the Palazzo del Principe Caetani. A few kilometers away, you will find Lake Fondi and the Monti Ausoni Regional Natural Park for those who want to extend their day with a walk.

The event is organized by the Nautilus Association, which brings together local beach operators, with the patronage of the Municipality of Fondi. The simple yet effective formula fits into a city calendar that continues throughout the warmer months with the Municipality's summer program of concerts, food festivals, and events along the waterfront.
