The historic May 1st fair that colors the streets of Turate
The Flower Fair is the symbolic event of May 1st in Turate, a municipality in the province of Como bordering the Saronno area. For an entire day, the town center dresses up for a party and becomes a large open-air market, where the colors and scents of flowers are the common thread of a popular and family-friendly event that attracts thousands of people.
The event unfolds along the central axis of the town: it starts from Via San Maurizio, crosses the heart of Turate, and reaches Viale Roma, involving Piazza Volta and the city's green areas. Along the route, there is space for over one hundred exhibitors: florists and nurserymen, artisans, hobbyists, and local associations, with even a private collection of historic bicycles exhibited for the occasion.
The pulsating heart of the day is Piazza Volta, where the S. Cecilia Musical Corps of Turate and the Giovanna Turconi music school present the "Ritagli Musicali" program. There are also sports demonstrations โ from Team MTB Lomazzo to Como Women women's football, from archery by the Arcieri dell'airone to mountain and caving activities by the Gruppo Grotte Saronno and CAI. At the Parco dei Veterani, in Via Cavour, children can have fun with "Playing with the firefighters" and the "Doll Ambulance" from the Red Cross.
Among the most spectacular attractions is the Volandia hot air balloon, set up near the dedicated parking lots, and the floral decoration of the monument to the fallen, curated by the Associazione Contrade in Piazza Volta. The fair remains one of the most heartfelt moments of aggregation for the community of Turate, capable of uniting agricultural tradition, craftsmanship, and village festival in a single spring day.
