The international opera festival in the heart of Montefeltro, in Urbania
The FIO ITALIA Summer Opera Festival is the summer event organized by FIO MONDO (Festival of International Opera) which every year enlivens Urbania, the elegant Renaissance village formerly known as Casteldurante, in the province of Pesaro and Urbino, in the Marche region. For more than a month, the town becomes a meeting point for emerging singers, conductors, and instrumentalists who come from all over the world to hone their skills and debut in high-level opera productions.
The heart of the festival is the Teatro Bramante, Urbania's historic Italian-style theatre, where the performances open to the public are staged. The program alternates major works from the repertoire with rarer and more precious operas: alongside productions with orchestra, there are staged performances with piano, recitals, concerts, and a varied program of opera scenes. This format allows audiences to discover both famous masterpieces and rarely performed titles, brought back to light with philological care.
FIO ITALIA is not just a showcase of performances, but a true high-level training program. Participants attend weeks of intensive Italian language lessons, coaching with Italian masters, singing lessons, and masterclasses with leading international artists. It is an immersive experience that combines study, community life, and the stage, and has launched numerous careers in the world of opera.
The festival builds strong ties with musical institutions in the Marche region: some productions are created in collaboration with the Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini, enhancing the region's operatic heritage and offering young singers the opportunity to connect with local professional realities. To complete the experience, cultural excursions to discover the Marche region, including the famous Frasassi Caves, are organized.
Attending FIO ITALIA means listening to the voices of the next generation of opera artists in an intimate and evocative setting, far from the big arenas but with a surprising artistic standard. Urbania, with its ceramics, the Ducal Palace, and the atmosphere of Montefeltro, provides the ideal backdrop for a summer dedicated to great music.
The FIO ITALIA Summer Opera Festival 2026 is held in Urbania (Pesaro and Urbino, Marche) from June 20 to July 25, 2026. The edition features five operas in staged form, as well as recitals, concerts, and a program of opera scenes, performed by participants of the FIO MONDO advanced training program. Productions with orchestra are complemented by staged performances with piano, offering the audience at the Teatro Bramante a journey through famous masterpieces and rare titles.
The dates and times of individual public performances will be published on the official website fio-mondo.org.
Urbania is located in the hinterland of the province of Pesaro and Urbino. By car, it can be reached from the SS73bis after the Fano (A14) motorway exit. The nearest train stations are Pesaro and Fano, connected to Urbania by bus lines.
The performances are mainly held at the Teatro Bramante in Urbania. Information on dates of individual events, tickets, and reservations is published on the official FIO MONDO website (fio-mondo.org) and on the festival's social media channels.
It is advisable to consult the schedule of public performances in advance and to combine your visit with a discovery of Urbania's historic center and the Montefeltro area.
