The jazz festival that concludes the Cilento summer in Vallo della Lucania
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Finestra Jazz - International Festival is the event that, for over twenty years, has closed the cultural season of Vallo della Lucania, the most populous town and main service hub of the Cilento region, in the province of Salerno, Campania. Established in 2001 by the municipal Department of Cultural Policies, the festival has been managed since 2006 by the Associazione Musicale Finestra Jazz, which has turned it into a staple for genre enthusiasts throughout the lower Salerno area.
The format remains essential and recognizable: a few evening concerts spread over a few days in September, when the summer tourist flow in Cilento has thinned and the villages return to a more intimate pace. It is a deliberate choice of destagionalizzazione (extending the season): bringing audiences to the hinterland just as the beaches empty out, offering a cultural reason to stay or return.
The evenings are held in two indoor spaces in the town center:
Concerts traditionally begin at 9:00 PM.
Throughout its history, Finestra Jazz has hosted international jazz legends and stars of the Italian scene: names that have graced the local stage include Danilo Rea, Enrico Pieranunzi, Flavio Boltro, as well as late greats like Benny Golson and Franco Cerri. The total count, according to the organizers, approaches two hundred artists over fifteen editions.
The programming does not limit itself to orthodox jazz: alongside classic trios and quartets, there is space for solo projects, tributes to Italian songs reinterpreted in a jazz key, and forays into soul, blues, and singer-songwriter music. The fifteenth edition in 2025, for example, featured the piano solo of Raphael Gualazzi, the Lucio Battisti tribute by the 6 in Jazz sextet, and the soul-jazz set of New York singer Joyce Yuille with the Hammond Groovers.
Finestra Jazz is not an isolated event: it is part of the "Cilento - I Borghi del Jazz" network, which connects jazz festivals in Vallo della Lucania, Laurino, Montecorice, Ispani, and Teggiano. The idea is to build a widespread musical itinerary among the villages of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, so that visitors can combine concerts, excursions, and local cuisine into a single trip.
The festival is promoted by the Municipality of Vallo della Lucania together with the Associazione Musicale Finestra Jazz, with the contribution of Aretur - Regional Tourism Agency of Campania, the Campania Region, and Cilento Faber, and with the collaboration of the Diocese of Vallo della Lucania. Finestra Jazz is included in the Estate Vallese program, the calendar of events that the Municipality distributes between June and September, of which the festival effectively acts as the grand finale.
The Municipality of Vallo della Lucania has included the Finestra Jazz Festival in the Estate Vallese 2026 program, scheduling it for September as the final act of a calendar that runs from June. The administration has specified that the schedule is constantly being updated and will be enriched with further appointments in the weeks following the presentation.
The exact dates and the artistic program of the festival have not yet been made public. The expected format remains the established one: evening concerts starting around 9:00 PM, hosted in the Diocesan Seminary Auditorium and the Teatro de Berardinis, with programming that alternates soloists, small ensembles, and projects bordering on jazz, soul, and singer-songwriter music.
The organization is entrusted, as in previous years, to the Municipality of Vallo della Lucania together with the Associazione Musicale Finestra Jazz, with the support of the Campania Region and Aretur, and with the collaboration of the Diocese of Vallo della Lucania. The festival remains part of the "Cilento - I Borghi del Jazz" circuit.
It is recommended to check dates, artists, and access methods on the official channels of the Municipality and the association before planning your trip.
By car: from the A2 del Mediterraneo motorway, take the Battipaglia exit, then the SS18 south towards the Vallo della Lucania junction; about 1 hour and 20 minutes from Salerno. By train: Vallo della Lucania-Castelnuovo station on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria Tyrrhenian line, connected to the town center by bus and taxi. By plane: Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi airport (approx. 90 km) or Naples-Capodichino (approx. 160 km).
Diocesan Seminary Auditorium and Teatro de Berardinis, both in the center of Vallo della Lucania (84078, province of Salerno). Concerts usually start at 9:00 PM.
In recent editions, admission to concerts has been free until capacity is reached. Access procedures are announced by the Municipality and the Finestra Jazz Association upon publication of the program.
Vallo della Lucania has hotels and bed and breakfasts in the center; a few kilometers away are the coastal accommodations of Cilento (Ascea, Pisciotta, Casal Velino), which are particularly accessible in September.
Combine your concert evening with a visit to the Velia Archaeological Park or an excursion in the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. The venues are indoors: the festival takes place regardless of weather conditions.
