A road race in the highest municipality of Lazio

Filettino in Corsa is a road running event held in Filettino, a small village in the province of Frosinone, Lazio. At 1,063 meters above sea level, it is the highest municipality in the region, overlooking the upper Aniene Valley and surrounded by the forests of the Simbruini Mountains Regional Natural Park. Running here means tackling an environment unusual for a road race: fresh air even in the height of summer, mountain vistas, and an urban landscape of alleys, stairways, and squares overlooking the valley.

The course: 9.6 km on a town circuit

The organizers have chosen an undulating 3.2 km town circuit to be repeated three times, for a total of 9.6 km. It is a technical track that is never flat, with constant rhythm changes dictated by the village's ups and downs. It rewards those who can manage their energy well and offers spectators the chance to see the athletes at every lap. The start and finish are located in Piazza Arcangelo Caraffa, in the historic center, which also serves as the meeting point, registration area, and site of the awards ceremony.

A federal event open to all

The race is part of the FIDAL Lazio regional calendar and is organized by Italiana Running ASD, a very active club in the lower Lazio running scene, with the patronage of the Municipality of Filettino and timing provided by Race Service. Alongside the competitive race reserved for registered athletes, there is a non-competitive fun run, designed for those who want to participate without the pressure of the clock—a choice that has attracted families, walkers, and visually impaired athletes with guides since its first edition.

The first edition in 2025

The debut took place on August 23, 2025, and received a response far beyond expectations for a village of a few hundred inhabitants: about 180 athletes at the start representing 52 clubs. The winners were Diego Papoccia (Atletica Ferentino) in 32'08" for the men and Serena Fanella (Atletica Ferentino) in 38'07" for the women. The success of that first outing convinced the organizers to confirm the event and move it to July, placing it in the heart of the village's summer season.

Running at altitude, between sport and territory

Filettino in Corsa is more than just a race: it is one of the occasions when the village showcases itself to visitors. The late afternoon start allows for running during the coolest hours and extending the evening in the historic center, among restaurants, bars, and the traditional hospitality of the Ciociaria mountain villages. Those arriving from Rome or the Pontine plain will find a complete weekend here: the race, excursions in the Simbruini Mountains Park, the springs of the Aniene river, and the trails towards Campo Staffi and nearby Campocatino.

Prizes and awards

As is tradition for races organized by Italiana Running, there are prizes for the top overall men and women and the top finishers in each FIDAL category, as well as a commemorative medal and race pack for participants. The awards ceremony takes place at the end of the race in the main square of the village, in a festive local atmosphere that has become an integral part of the event's identity.
