Every year, around Ferragosto, the Cerretana hamlet of the Municipality of Montefortino, in the Province of Fermo, transforms into the kingdom of handmade pasta. The Festival of Strozzapreti alla Norcina is one of the most cherished gastronomic festivals in this corner of the Sibillini Mountains, drawing residents, holidaymakers, and curious visitors every summer in search of authentic flavors of the Marche tradition.
The signature dish of the event is strozzapreti, a simple pasta rolled and shaped by hand according to ancient peasant tradition. They are served in their most famous version, alla Norcina, with a creamy sauce made with cream, sausage, and black pepper, but also in various local variations that change nightly. Alongside the pasta, the food stalls offer:
The festival is not just about good food: each evening is enlivened by folk groups, traditional dancing, games, and entertainment designed for children too. It's an opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a true village festival, where cuisine intertwines with social interaction and the sense of community that characterizes the villages of the Marche Apennines.
Montefortino is one of the municipalities that guard the entrance to the heart of the Sibillini Mountains National Park, straddling the Marche and Umbria regions. The Cerretana hamlet, nestled in the green hills of Fermo, offers the ideal setting for a summer evening outdoors, amidst nature, gastronomy, and hospitality. The event is organized by the association Cerretana E' VITA, which has kept this Ferragosto tradition alive for over twenty years.
The 23rd edition of the Festival of Strozzapreti alla Norcina is scheduled, according to industry portals, from August 12 to 15, 2026, in the Cerretana hamlet of Montefortino (FM). As tradition dictates, the four evenings will revolve around handmade strozzapreti dressed alla Norcina, alongside grilled meats, cured meats, cheeses, and homemade sweets accompanied by local wines.
The detailed program for the evenings, including musical groups and schedules, is usually published by the association Cerretana E' VITA in the weeks preceding the event on their Facebook page and website cerretana.it. The 2026 dates are currently indicated by specialized portals with the wording "date to be confirmed": it is advisable to check with the organizers before planning your visit.
