About Festival of Our Lady of the Belt
An ancient devotion in Carpi
The Festival of Our Lady of the Belt is the historic festival of the village of Carpi, a hamlet of Villa Bartolomea, in the province of Verona. Documented as early as 1911 as 'the village festival', it celebrates the deep devotion of the Carpi community to Our Lady of the Belt (or Our Lady of Consolation), whose cult is linked to a Baroque-style altar and a wooden statue kept in the parish church.
Procession, dancing, and charity
The festival combines the religious and popular dimensions. The most heartfelt moment is the procession along Via Borgo Chiesa, with the statue of Our Lady carried on a festively decorated cart, followed by the parish priest and the faithful. The evenings are enlivened by music and dancing, rich tombola games, and a charity raffle, while the food and wine stand opens every evening from 7:30 PM, alongside the bar and the 'Bar dei Butei' with beer and typical drinks.
The Carpi community takes center stage
The festival is organized by the parish community of Carpi, which has revived a tradition whose memories risked being lost. Today, it represents an identity event for the hamlet and for the entire territory of Villa Bartolomea, in the Veronese plain.
