Three days of games, workshops, and performances to celebrate children's rights
The Festival of Girls and Boys is the event with which the Municipality of Milan celebrates children's rights, transforming the city into a large space for play, discovery, and creativity for three days. The core is the Sforza Castle, in Piazza Castello (District 1), supported by civic museums, libraries, and urban courtyards that host activities throughout Milan.
The program is entirely designed for children and their families: themed workshops dedicated to the history and museums of the castle, animated readings, scientific shows, treasure hunts to discover the monument. The activities involve different age groups, from toddlers to elementary school children, with a particular focus on play as a tool for learning and expression.
In addition to the Sforza Castle, the festival reaches Milan's public libraries, with workshops, animated readings, experiments, and games for children aged 0 to 11, and other municipal cultural spaces, where workshops, guided tours, and performances take place. Girls, boys, and accompanying adults who participate in the activities scheduled at the Castle also have the right to free entry to the museums.
The festival is part of the Week of Rights for Children and Adolescents and was created to affirm the right of the youngest to express themselves, participate, and have their voices heard. It is an opportunity for Milan to show itself as a city attentive to its youngest citizens, offering them quality cultural experiences, free of charge, in the city's symbolic places.
The 2026 edition of the Festival of Girls and Boys takes place from May 22nd to 24th, 2026, with its main venue at the Sforza Castle and activities spread across Milan's civic museums, libraries, and courtyards.
