The peasant cuisine of yesteryear in the village of Monsampietro Morico
In the small village of Monsampietro Morico, in the province of Fermo, in the heart of the Marche region, one of the most cherished local festivals takes place every summer: "Lo magnà de 'na ota", meaning "eating of yesteryear". For over twenty years, this event has taken visitors on a journey back in time, rediscovering the tastes and aromas of the Marche peasant cuisine, the kind from country houses and grandmothers, made with simple ingredients and great skill.
The true star of the festival is traditional food, prepared according to the recipes of the past. Among the specialties you can taste at the stalls in the historic center are dishes that have become rare on modern tables:
"Lo magnà de 'na ota" is not just about gastronomy: the festival comes alive every evening with the traditional songs and dances of Marche's popular culture, animated by the local folklore group. The streets and small squares of the village fill with music, creating a convivial and genuine atmosphere that attracts numerous visitors every year from neighboring towns and the entire province of Fermo.
The festival is also an excellent opportunity to visit Monsampietro Morico, a small municipality in the Fermo hinterland nestled in the rolling hills of the Marche. The historic center, quiet and secluded for most of the year, transforms into a vibrant stage during the event, where tradition, community, and good food come together. Organized by the Associazione Ricreativa Culturale Le Scalette with the collaboration of local associations, the festival is one of the most anticipated summer events in the local calendar.
The 20th edition of the festival is planned for 2026 and is confirmed in the regional calendar of events for the Marche. The event traditionally takes place on the evenings of August 8th and 9th; the precise dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition will be announced by the organizers in the weeks preceding the event.
In 2026, Monsampietro Morico will host the 20th edition of "Lo magnà de 'na ota", the festival dedicated to the peasant cuisine of the Marche region of yesteryear. As tradition dictates, the historic center will feature gastronomic stalls with our grandparents' dishes - frascarelli, maltagliati, roast goose, tripe, and typical desserts - accompanied each evening by songs and dances of local folklore. The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the organizers closer to the event.
The festival is held in the historic center of Monsampietro Morico (FM), in the Marche region.
By car: the village can be reached from the SS4 Salaria or the A14 motorway (exits Pedaso or Porto San Giorgio - Fermo), continuing towards the Fermo hinterland. The nearest train station is Pedaso, on the Adriatic line.
Traditionally on the evenings of August 8th and 9th. Free admission; payment is only for food and drinks at the gastronomic stalls.
It is advisable to arrive in the evening, when the stalls open and the folklore shows begin. For updated dates for the 2026 edition, it is best to consult the festival's official Facebook page.
