Ranzanico celebrates its patron saint on Ferragosto
On August 15th, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, is the most important day of the liturgical year for Ranzanico, a municipality in Val Cavallina in the Province of Bergamo, overlooking Lake Endine. The Patronal Festival of Santa Maria Assunta celebrates the town's patron saint with a solemn Mass, a procession, and community gatherings that have marked the Ferragosto of the community for centuries.
The heart of the festival is the parish church, established as a parish in 1476 after its separation from the pieve of Mologno and rebuilt in its current form between 1786 and 1791. The building houses a remarkable artistic heritage, with works by Palma il Giovane, Enea Salmeggia, and Antonio Cifrondi: a small treasure trove of art that tells the long religious history of the Bergamo village.
The patronal day alternates religious rites โ the solemn Mass, the procession with the statue of the Assumption through the village streets โ with moments of community celebration. In a municipality of a few hundred inhabitants, August 15th is the occasion when residents, holidaymakers, and families originally from the area come together to renew an ancient bond with their land.
The festival is also an opportunity to discover Ranzanico and its territory: Lake Endine, walks along its shores, and attractions such as the "Fal'Fil dal baco alla seta" Museum, which recounts the silk tradition of Val Cavallina. A festival that intertwines faith, identity, and landscape in one of the most evocative corners of the Bergamo region.
In 2026, the Patronal Festival of Santa Maria Assunta will again be celebrated in Ranzanico on August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. The patronal day includes the solemn Mass in the parish church and the procession with the patron saint's statue through the streets of the Val Cavallina village.
As it is a religious festival with a fixed date, the schedule of celebrations will be announced by the parish in the preceding days. The parish church, with its works by Palma il Giovane, Salmeggia, and Cifrondi, remains the focal point of the day.
The detailed liturgical program for 2026 will be communicated by the Parish of Ranzanico. The traditional structure of the day includes:
Parish Church of Santa Maria Assunta, Ranzanico (BG), Val Cavallina, on Lake Endine.
By car from Bergamo along the SS42 del Tonale e della Mendola to Val Cavallina (approx. 30 km). Bus services from the Bergamo area to Endine and the valley.
The festival is celebrated every year on August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary. Times for religious services are available on the parish website.
