The Patron Saint of Polesine
The Patronal Festival of Saint Anthony of Padua is celebrated in Castelnovo Bariano, a municipality in the upper Polesine area of the province of Rovigo, on the border between Veneto, Lombardy, and Emilia. It is the community's identity festival, intertwining faith with conviviality.
Mass, Procession, and Community Dinner
The patronal day revolves around the Eucharistic celebration and the religious procession, led by the priests of the pastoral area of Castelmassa – which groups together seven parishes and eight bell towers – and the choir of Saint Anthony of Padua. Afterwards, the Pro Loco stand hosts the community dinner, a moment of socialising that brings together the town's inhabitants.
The Pilgrimage to Padua
The traditional diocesan pilgrimage to the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua is linked to the festival, with coach departures from the towns in the pastoral area. The Pro Loco Castelnovo Bariano APS further enriches the municipal calendar with numerous initiatives throughout the year, from the Carnival Festival to walks, from vintage vehicle rallies to musical evenings.
Festa di Sant'Antonio — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the patronal festival takes place on Saturday, June 13th in Castelnovo Bariano. The day begins at 6:30 PM with the Eucharistic celebration and religious procession, led by the priests of the Castelmassa pastoral area and the choir of Saint Anthony of Padua; at 8:00 PM, the community dinner follows at the Pro Loco stand. The festival is preceded, on Wednesday, June 3rd, by the diocesan pilgrimage to the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua.

- Diocesan pilgrimage to the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua, with coach departures from the pastoral area (Melara 2:30 PM, Bergantino 2:40 PM, Castelmassa 2:50 PM, Ceneselli 3:00 PM)
Saturday, June 13th — Patronal Day
- 6:30 PM — Eucharistic celebration and procession, with the priests of the Castelmassa pastoral area and the choir of Saint Anthony of Padua
- 8:00 PM — Community dinner at the Pro Loco stand (€28 per person): seafood salad, fried mixed fish with side dish, sorbet, wine, water, and coffee

How to get there
Castelnovo Bariano is located in the upper Polesine region, in the province of Rovigo. By car: take the Transpolesana (SS434) or the A22 motorway exit at Nogarole Rocca / A13 exit at Occhiobello, then follow signs for Castelmassa–Castelnovo Bariano.
