The patron saint's festival in Voltido

In Voltido, a municipality of just over three hundred inhabitants in the plain of the province of Cremona, in Lombardy, the patronal feast is celebrated on September 29th in honour of Saint Michael the Archangel, titular of the parish church and patron saint of the town.

The Church of Saint Michael the Archangel

The focal point of the festival is the parish church of Saint Michael the Archangel, a building resulting from a late 19th-century renovation, with a two-tiered facade surmounted by a pediment and a single nave. The devotion of the village revolves around this church, in an area—the Bassa Cremonese—where patronal feasts remain the main moment of identity and meeting for the small communities of the Po Valley.

A community festival

The festival of Saint Michael in Voltido retains the intimate character of smaller centres: liturgical celebrations, the gathering of the village, and the link with its own history. The municipality also includes the hamlet of Recorfano, which keeps alive its own devotional tradition with the celebrations of Saint Roch in mid-August.
