The patron saint of Cicognolo between faith, festival, and tradition
In Cicognolo, in the province of Cremona, the patron saint is San Donnino martire (Saint Donnino the Martyr), celebrated on October 9th. He is a thaumaturgical saint, invoked particularly against bites from rabid and venomous animals, venerated as the patron saint of both Cicognolo and Fidenza. Tradition recalls him as a 3rd-century martyr, beheaded on the banks of the Stirone stream.
The patronal festival combines the religious and popular dimensions, with a program that unfolds over several days:
The Festa di San Donnino is organized by the village's associations – the Library Group, AUSER, the Senior Center, and the Parish – under the patronage of the Municipality. It is an event that renews every autumn the bond of the inhabitants of Cicognolo with their patron saint and the village traditions, in the heart of the Cremona plain.
For 2026, the Festa Patronale di San Donnino in Cicognolo will take place, as per tradition, around October 9th, the feast day of the patron saint. The village associations, with the parish and the patronage of the Municipality, are organizing the religious celebrations and the village fair, which typically includes stalls, rides, live music, a charity raffle, bouncy castles for children, exhibitions, and fireworks. The exact dates and detailed program will be announced closer to the event.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the organizers. Based on recent editions, the festival usually includes, over several days:
Center of Cicognolo (CR).
Around October 9th, the feast day of San Donnino martire.
