The Patron Saints of Pumenengo

June 29th is the day of the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, patron saints of Pumenengo, a municipality in the lower plains of the province of Bergamo, bordering the provinces of Cremona and Brescia. The 18th-century parish church of the town, located next to Castello Barbò, is dedicated to these saints. Originally the castle's chapel, it was later expanded in the 18th century for public use and houses valuable artworks.

A Community Festival on the Oglio River

The patronal feast combines the solemnity of liturgical celebrations in honor of the two apostles with the convivial atmosphere typical of village festivals. In a village overlooking the Oglio River and situated within the Parco Oglio Nord, the June 29th occasion is one of the events that brings together the entire community of Pumenengo, a town of just over 1,600 inhabitants.

Saints Peter and Paul are among the most important figures in the Christian calendar, and in Pumenengo, their feast renews the bond between the inhabitants, the parish, and the town's history each year. Pumenengo is part of the "Nostra Signora della Rotonda" Pastoral Unit, along with Calcio, and also safeguards the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Rotonda: a heritage of faith and art that provides the backdrop for this celebration in the lower Bergamo region.
