Saint Alexander, patron saint of Bergamo and Cortenuova

Cortenuova is a municipality in the Bassa bergamasca, in the province of Bergamo, historically known for the battle fought there in 1237. Its parish church is dedicated to Saint Alexander the Martyr, the soldier of the Theban Legion who, according to tradition, suffered martyrdom in Bergamo, the city of which he is patron saint along with the entire Diocese. The parish church of Cortenuova, whose origins date back to the 15th century, preserves this ancient devotion.
