Saint Lucia at the end of summer
On the first Sunday of September, the village of Castelpizzuto, in the province of Isernia, celebrates Saint Lucia. Unlike the winter commemoration on December 13th, in this small town in the Molise Matese, the saint is celebrated at the end of summer, when the town is still lively with the presence of those who have returned for the holidays.
Mass and procession
The day is marked by the mass and the procession with the saint's effigy through the streets of the centre. The festival represents one of the last major community events before autumn and ideally closes the season of religious commemorations in Castelpizzuto.
The village festival calendar
Saint Lucia completes the annual cycle of festivals in Castelpizzuto, which includes the patron saint Sant'Agata in February, San Domenico Abate with the tradition of the Serpari in May, and Sant'Anna in July. A living heritage of traditions preserved in one of the least populated municipalities in Molise.

Castelpizzuto (IS) can be reached by car from Isernia, at the foot of the Matese mountains. The festival takes place in the church and in the streets of the centre.
