About Sant'Onofrio

On June 11th, Agnone, in Alto Molise, celebrates Sant'Onofrio with a pilgrimage that blends devotion and community celebration. The statue of the saint, carried from the mountain to the church of Sant'Antonio on June 9th, is returned on the 11th to the rural chapel on Monte Sant'Onofrio, over seven kilometers on foot with stops and banquets. At the summit, Mass, fireworks, and a great day of singing, dancing, and picnics immersed in the nature of the province of Isernia.

A Community Pilgrimage

The Festa di Sant'Onofrio in Agnone, in the province of Isernia, is a tradition that unites faith and social life. On June 9th, the statue of the saint is transferred from the rural chapel on Monte Sant'Onofrio to the church of Sant'Antonio in the village; on June 11th, the faithful accompany it back in procession to the mountain sanctuary, along a path of over seven kilometers.

Stops and Banquets

The journey includes traditional stops where locals refresh the pilgrims: a hearty banquet awaits them at the contrada Secolare, while contrada Porfilio is the second refreshment point. It is a procession that involves entire families and many young people, in an atmosphere that mixes religious reflection and outdoor celebration.

Festival at the Top of the Mountain

Around noon, pilgrims reach the summit, where Mass and fireworks are celebrated. Many then stay on the mountain for the entire day, enjoying singing, dancing, and picnics, taking advantage of the first beautiful days of the Alto Molise summer. An authentic festival that tells of the deep bond between the community of Agnone and its mountain and traditions.
