The neighbourhood's autumn festival

The Festa di San Martino of Municipality 4 is a community event held in Piazza 8 ottobre 2001, in Milan. Ideally linked to the popular tradition of San Martino, the festival brings a day of activities for all ages to the square, in a spirit of social interaction and sharing typical of Milanese autumn.

A varied program

The day brings together shows, logic games and puzzles, moments of sport and entertainment, as well as cultural exchanges through music and stories. For the little ones, dedicated activities are planned, such as face painting. A mix that reflects the participatory spirit of the project, where culture, games, and sport intertwine in the public space.

Part of the Peace&Sport project

The festival is part of the Peace&Sport 2026 program of Municipality 4 of Milan (Province of Milan, Lombardy), created in collaboration with the association OUTSIDE. Throughout the year, the program promotes a culture of peace through sport, music, and community activities, with free events spread across the various neighbourhoods of the territory.

San Martino, between tradition and neighbourhood festival

The choice of San Martino is not accidental: November 11th, the saint's day, has for centuries been linked in Italian popular culture to the "St. Martin's summer", that brief return of good weather that accompanies the end of autumn, and to traditions of conviviality and the opening of new wine. The Festa di San Martino of Municipality 4 reinterprets this tradition in a contemporary and urban way, transforming it into a day of games, sport, and meeting for the Milanese community. It is an example of how a neighbourhood festival can intertwine ancient cultural roots and new languages, offering families and children an opportunity for social interaction during a time of year when opportunities to be together outdoors become rarer.
