The oldest sanctuary in the Trebbia Valley

In the heart of the Trebbia Valley, in Montebruno (Metropolitan City of Genoa), stands the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montebruno, one of the oldest and most revered Marian places of worship in the Ligurian hinterland. According to tradition, its origins date back to a Marian apparition in 1478 to a mute shepherd boy; a papal decree in 1489 authorized its construction. The interior of the church, with Gothic features and Baroque-inspired decorations, holds centuries of popular devotion.

The festival of September 8th

The most important anniversary is the Feast of the Nativity of Mary, which falls on September 8th. It is the patronal feast of the sanctuary, an occasion for pilgrimage for the faithful from all over the Trebbia Valley. The central moment is the procession with the statue of the Virgin through the village streets, accompanied by solemn liturgical celebrations.
