The European Music Festival in the heart of the Simeto-Etna district, in Ragalna
The Festa della Musica – Simeto Etna is the premier summer musical event in the town of Ragalna, a small center within the Metropolitan City of Catania nestled on the southwestern slopes of Mount Etna, in Sicily. Every year on June 21st, the festival joins the European Music Day, an initiative born in France and spread throughout Europe that aligns the summer solstice with a massive, widespread celebration of live sound. In Ragalna, this tradition intertwines with the identity of the Simeto-Etna district, creating an evening in the town square that serves as both a musical showcase and a moment of popular gathering.
The event is part of the broader Simeto Etna project, a cultural and territorial development path that aims to strengthen the historical and landscape identity of the area between the Simeto River and the volcano. The festival is more than just a concert: it seeks to give space to local artists, support emerging talent, and cement a sense of community through music. Nine editions of constant growth have transformed a local initiative into a recognized fixture of the Etna summer calendar, capable of attracting audiences even from neighboring towns like Paternò.
The evening takes place in Piazza Cisterna, the heart of the town, with performances starting at 7:00 PM. The program alternates live performances by artists, emerging bands, and established local talent, offering a diverse range of musical genres that connect different generations. There is also a space dedicated to DJ sets and a dedicated food area featuring local products and specialties, perfect for enjoying the performances in a convivial atmosphere.
Promoted by the Municipality of Ragalna together with Pro Loco Ragalna, Pro Loco Paternò, and in collaboration with the Musica & Movimento Association, the Festa della Musica – Simeto Etna is now a symbol of the Ragalna summer. Each edition adopts a theme that guides its spirit: in 2026, the central theme is «The Voice of the Places», designed to highlight the historical and landscape identity of the district. In a territory dominated by the majestic presence of Mount Etna, the festival becomes an opportunity to rediscover the communal dimension of music on one of the brightest evenings of the year.
The ninth edition of the Festa della Musica – Simeto Etna was held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, in Piazza Cisterna in Ragalna, on the occasion of the European Music Day. The chosen theme, «The Voice of the Places», focused on the historical and landscape identity of the Simeto-Etna district. Starting at 7:00 PM, live performances by local artists, bands, and young talents alternated, accompanied by a DJ set area and a food zone with local specialties. The evening was hosted by Federica Parisi, Alessandro Cozzetto, and Maurizio Musumeci (known as Dinastia). The event, with free admission, was promoted by the Municipality of Ragalna with the Pro Loco of Ragalna and Paternò and the collaboration of the Musica & Movimento Association.
Ragalna is located about 25 km from Catania, on the southwestern slopes of Mount Etna. By car, it can be reached via the SS121 and SP4 roads in the direction of Paternò–Ragalna; the nearest airport is Catania-Fontanarossa. The performances take place in Piazza Cisterna, in the town center.
The event is held on June 21st, coinciding with the European Music Day, with performances starting at 7:00 PM.
Admission is free and open to the public. A food area with local specialties is available.
