Waiting for the Palio

The Festa della Contrada Spagna is part of the 'Aspettando il Palio' (Waiting for the Palio) series, a cycle of festivals that, evening after evening, accompanies Garda towards the Palio delle Contrade on Ferragosto. Each historic contrada dedicates an evening to its identity, colours, and gastronomic specialities, building anticipation for the great bisse rowing race on August 15th.

The red-green contrada of the tench

The Contrada Spagna, with its red and green colours, has the tench as its symbol, a freshwater fish typical of Lake Garda. The festival celebrates this local product with traditional dishes, prepared with fresh and genuine ingredients that tell the story and culture of the Garda community. Live music, starting at 9:30 PM, accompanies the evening in a festive atmosphere.

Folklore and flavours on the lake

The festival is an authentic opportunity to immerse yourself in the folklore of Garda and discover its traditions. Amidst lake specialities, conviviality, and music, the Contrada Spagna evening reflects the most popular spirit of the Garda village, in the province of Verona, while awaiting the contrade's challenge on the water in the Palio rowing race.
