Saint Nicholas of Bari is the main patron saint of Vastogirardi, a charming medieval village in Alto Molise, in the province of Isernia, nestled in the woods of the MAB Unesco Reserve. The feast in his honor is the moment of greatest devotion for the town and is celebrated in the first days of July.
The triduum and the procession
The celebrations are structured over a three-day period (July 1-2-3), with the main feast on July 3rd. The statue of the saint, kept in the fifteenth-century church dedicated to him in the heart of the village, is carried in a solemn procession through the streets of the town, accompanied by the community.
A feast that brings back emigrants
The feast of Saint Nicholas is also a great gathering moment: many returning emigrants choose these days to come back to Vastogirardi and relive the rites that connect the present to the roots of the Molise village together with the community. The celebrations are intertwined with the nearby Feast of the Madonna delle Grazie and the Flight of the Angel.
Feast of Saint Nicholas — edition 2026
The Feast of Saint Nicholas of Bari 2026 culminated on July 3rd, the third day of the triduum of celebrations. The statue of the saint, kept in the fifteenth-century church of the village, was carried in a solemn procession through the streets of Vastogirardi.
The feast brought together the community and the many returning emigrants in the medieval village of Alto Molise, in the province of Isernia, confirming itself as a central event of the village's summer, in continuity with the Feast of the Madonna delle Grazie and the Flight of the Angel of the preceding days.

How to get there
Vastogirardi is located in Alto Molise, in the province of Isernia, within the MAB Reserve of Collemeluccio-Montedimezzo. It can be reached by car from Isernia and from the Agnone area.
