The feast of the patron saint of sailors in Arma di Taggia
The Feast of Saint Erasmus is the most cherished event of the summer in Arma di Taggia, a coastal district of the municipality of Taggia in the province of Imperia. Saint Erasmus is the protector of sailors, and the festival celebrates the village's deep connection with the sea.
The program typically unfolds over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is dedicated to music, with concerts such as the one by the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, and religious observances. Sunday is the main day: the casting of a laurel wreath into the sea in memory of those lost at sea ("Saint Erasmus of the Depths"), the solemn mass, and the grand procession along the seafront, accompanied by the town band.
The grand finale is the evening fireworks display, with pyrotechnics illuminating the sea of Arma di Taggia. Amidst the fair, stalls, and widespread festivities, the event draws residents and tourists, reaffirming its status as one of the most beloved summer events on the Riviera dei Fiori.
For 2026, the feast is anticipated on the last Sunday of July, namely Sunday, July 26th, with the eve on the preceding Saturday. The specific dates and detailed program are announced by the Municipality of Taggia in the weeks prior.
According to tradition, the feast includes concerts and religious moments on Saturday, and on Sunday, the casting of the laurel wreath into the sea, the solemn mass, the procession along the seafront, and the grand evening fireworks display.
The detailed 2026 program will be published by the Municipality of Taggia. Based on recent editions:
