Vastogirardi (province of Isernia) celebrates its patron saint Saint Anthony of Padua on June 13th. Included in the traditions calendar of the Alto Molise MAB Reserve, the feast is one of the central moments of the village's religious year and attracts residents, returning emigrants, and visitors from neighboring towns.

A medieval village in Alto Molise

Vastogirardi is one of the most characteristic villages in Alto Molise: dominated by its medieval castle and guardian of the famous Italic temple from the Samnite period, it preserves a compact stone historic center that serves as a natural backdrop for the celebrations. The feast of Saint Anthony traditionally takes place with the procession of the saint through the village streets, accompanied by liturgical celebrations and civil events that conclude the day.

Like many Molise patronal feasts, that of Saint Anthony of Padua in Vastogirardi combines the devotional dimension with the community one: it is the occasion when the village comes together, in a mountainous area marked by depopulation, to renew the bond with its roots and with local religious tradition.
