The feast of the regional patron saint at the end of August
The Feast of Mary SS. Addolorata is the most important event in Castelpetroso, a town in the province of Isernia. The devotion to the Addolorata, linked to the apparitions of 1888 and the monumental neo-Gothic Sanctuary, makes this village a spiritual reference point for all of Molise. The patronal feast is celebrated on the last Sunday of August.
The feast combines religious rites in honor of Our Lady of Sorrows with popular festivities, including a procession and celebrations that involve the entire community. It is one of the central moments of the Castelpetrosan summer, distinct from the major anniversary of the apparitions on March 22nd.
Visiting Castelpetroso for the feast means discovering a place where faith is a deep part of the territory's identity, in a landscape of the hinterland of the province of Isernia dominated by the imposing Sanctuary of the Addolorata.
The Feast of Mary SS. Addolorata, patron saint of Castelpetroso, will return on the last Sunday of August 2026. The patronal feast includes religious rites in honor of the Madonna, a procession, and popular celebrations in the heart of the village, a central moment of the Castelpetrosan summer.
