About Fava Bean and Pecorino Festival

Every spring, the Fava Bean, Pecorino and Arrosticini Festival brings the medieval alleys of Brittoli to life. This small village in the province of Pescara overlooks the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. Launched in 2025, the event celebrates local staples: fresh fava beans, pecorino cheese, handmade arrosticini, sausages, and fried pizza, all accompanied by live music and the convivial atmosphere of village evenings. This free-entry gastronomic event highlights rural traditions and the genuine flavors of the Abruzzo hinterland.

A new festival in the heart of the Abruzzo mountains

The Fava Bean, Pecorino and Arrosticini Festival is a food and wine event held in the historic center of Brittoli, a small town of just over two hundred inhabitants perched on a rocky spur at an altitude of about 780 meters in the province of Pescara. The village, which retains its medieval layout of narrow alleys and stone houses, is located on the lower slopes of the Gran Sasso, within the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, in one of the most evocative areas of the Abruzzo hinterland.

The flavors of rural tradition

The festival was created to showcase the typical products of the Abruzzo spring and the surrounding area. Along the village's characteristic alleys, visitors can taste the specialties that give the event its name:

  • Fresh fava beans, the star of the spring table, traditionally paired with pecorino;
  • Local pecorino, the iconic cheese of Apennine shepherding;
  • Handmade arrosticini, the sheep meat skewers that are the gastronomic icon of Abruzzo;
  • Sausages and other cured meats;
  • Fried pizza and other popular local specialties.

Live music and village atmosphere

In addition to the tastings, the event features live music evenings with local bands, enlivening the village streets until late. Admission is free, and the event attracts visitors from neighboring towns, offering a chance to discover an authentic village far from mass tourism circuits.

Brittoli and its surroundings

Visiting the festival is also a great excuse to explore Brittoli and its treasures: the 17th-century Palazzo Pagliccia, with its rough stone facade, and the parish church dedicated to San Carlo Borromeo. Immersed in the greenery of the Gran Sasso, the village is an ideal starting point for excursions and for savoring the genuineness of the most authentic Abruzzo. The event, young but already rooted in local identity, combines the promotion of typical products with the rediscovery of a charming mountain village.

Fava Bean and Pecorino Festival — edition 2026

Following its 2025 debut, the Fava Bean, Pecorino and Arrosticini Festival is expected to return to Brittoli in late spring. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced; the first edition was held at the end of May. As per tradition, tastings of fresh fava beans, pecorino, handmade arrosticini, and other local products are expected, along with live music and free entry in the historic center of the Pescara village.

The dates for the 2026 edition of the Fava Bean, Pecorino and Arrosticini Festival in Brittoli have not yet been announced at the time of publication. The first edition took place in late May 2025, and the event, supported by the local community, is poised to become an annual fixture of the Abruzzo spring.

As soon as the organization releases the program, this page will be updated with dates, times, musical guests, and details on the tastings. For information, we recommend checking the official channels of the Municipality of Brittoli and the local Abruzzo press.
