Fashion Revolution Week Rome (Collettivo Moda Consapevole)

A global week, a Roman day

Fashion Revolution Week is the world's largest movement dedicated to ethical fashion: it is celebrated annually around April 24th, the date of the Rana Plaza collapse in Dhaka (2013), a tragedy that claimed the lives of over 1,100 textile workers. Since then, the question that gives the campaign its name — «Who made my clothes?» — has been directed at brands worldwide. In Rome, within the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, the Italian leg is curated by the Collettivo Moda Consapevole, which every spring transforms a city-centre studio into a workshop open to the public.

The Collettivo Moda Consapevole

Founded during the 2024 Fashion Revolution Week, the Collective informally brings together Roman entities working on low-impact fashion: slow fashion brands, upcyclers, social tailoring shops, swap party collectives, and artisan workshops. On October 1st, 2025, the group was officially presented at the Campidoglio as a Third Sector entity, with the goal of showcasing local creative enterprises and promoting responsible production models. Today, it is one of the most active networks in the Lazio region regarding circular fashion.

What happens during the day

The format is intentionally hands-on: you learn by doing. Throughout the day, there are limited-capacity workshops in the afternoon, talks in the evening, and a final social gathering. Activities featured in recent editions include:

• Visible mending and texture mending on denim: visible darning, sashiko techniques, and creative repair for clothes you might otherwise throw away;
• Haute recycle: creating fabric flowers and accessories from scraps and offcuts;
• The hero garment: transformation workshops for T-shirts, the most common and problematic item in our wardrobes;
• Miniature books and other experiments in paper and fabric reuse;
• Talks on ethical fashion, transparent supply chains, and made-in-Africa production, featuring designers and industry experts;
• Networking and final aperitivo, to connect artisans, emerging brands, and curious newcomers.

Trastevere as a backdrop

The venue is Atelier Pinda Kida, at via del Cipresso 14, a quiet side street in the heart of Trastevere: a setting that makes the event particularly pleasant, allowing participants to combine workshops with a stroll through the capital's most characteristic district. The spaces are intimate, groups are small, and the atmosphere is more like a workshop than a conference.

Who is it for?

You don't need to know how to sew. The day is designed for anyone who wants to understand how the clothing supply chain really works and learn some practical skills: students, vintage enthusiasts, fashion professionals, and families. Those who regularly attend the Collective's events can find them throughout the year at other Roman gatherings dedicated to clothing swaps and repairs, such as the Mend in Public Day and the various Rome Fashion Path initiatives.

In a city like Rome, where fashion is often portrayed only through high-end shop windows, Fashion Revolution Week offers a different, concrete perspective: that of those who produce, repair, and recycle. It is a free or symbolic-contribution event with a strong participatory dimension, which over the years has become a reference point for the creative fabric of Lazio.
