The Farnese Trade Fair is the village's annual market, an event that returns every year on the first Sunday of June. For one day, the entire historic center transforms into a large open-air market: exhibitors set up their stalls in the squares and along Via San Magno, attracting residents and visitors from the neighboring towns of Tuscia and the nearby Tuscan Maremma.

The heart of the event is the central squares and Via San Magno, the main axis running through the village, named after the ancient convent of San Magno, built during the heyday of the Farnese family. Strolling among the stalls becomes a way to traverse the town's historic center, amidst tufa alleys, churches, and views of the lower Lazio Maremma countryside.

Farnese, the village of the Farnese family
Farnese is a small town of about 1,600 inhabitants in the Province of Viterbo, in Lazio, nestled on a tufa spur west of Lake Bolsena, bordering Tuscany. It is the ancestral home of the powerful Farnese family, who, with Pope Paul III (Alessandro Farnese), left their mark on the history of the Italian Renaissance. In the village, you can still admire Palazzo Farnese, whose portal is attributed to Vignola, and traces of a glorious past. Surrounding the town is the Selva del Lamone, a nature reserve of over two thousand hectares of woodland that was once a refuge for brigands and is now a popular destination for hikers. The Trade Fair is the ideal occasion to combine a day of shopping with the discovery of this authentic corner of Tuscia.

The 2026 edition of the Farnese Trade Fair took place on Sunday, June 7, upholding the tradition of the village's annual fair held on the first Sunday of June. Exhibitor stalls occupied the squares of the historic center and Via San Magno, attracting visitors from neighboring towns in the Province of Viterbo.
As is customary, the day combined shopping at the stalls with a walk through the tufa-stone center of Farnese, between Palazzo Farnese and views of the lower Maremma countryside. Admission was free.

How to get there
By car: Farnese can be reached via the Via Cassia and the Maremmana roads, heading towards Lake Bolsena and Valentano; it is about 45 km from Viterbo. On the day of the fair, it is advisable to leave your car in the parking lots on the outskirts of the historic center, as the internal streets are occupied by stalls.
