The international short film festival of Fiorano Modenese
The Ennesimo Film Festival is the major international event dedicated to short films that animates Fiorano Modenese every spring. This municipality in the province of Modena is located in the ceramic district of Emilia-Romagna. Founded in 2016 by the energy of the youth association TILT, in just a few editions, the festival has become a benchmark event for short films in Italy, capable of attracting directors, actors, voice actors, and thousands of spectators to the small town of Modena.
The mission declared by the organizers is ambitious: to transform the way people observe the world, through cinema. Each year, the official selection gathers over 150 short films from around the world, accompanied by more than 50 events including screenings, masterclasses, meetings, and workshops.
What makes Ennesimo different from a simple review is its ability to move beyond the cinema hall and occupy the entire city. The core remains the Astoria Theatre, but during the week, the festival expands to Villa Pace, the BLA library, Piazza Ciro Menotti, and the historic center of Fiorano, with exhibitions, itinerant performances, virtual reality experiences, and activities for families.
The event grows thanks to the support of the Municipality of Fiorano Modenese, the Emilia-Romagna Region, and the Fondazione di Modena. In recent years, it has received prestigious endorsements such as those from the European Parliament and the Italian Space Agency. This recognition testifies how, from a province often associated only with ceramics and engines, one of the most vibrant realities in the Italian independent film scene has emerged.
One of Ennesimo's distinctive features is its complete freeness: all screenings and meetings are free admission until seats are full. A popular festival in the best sense of the word, it brings auteur cinema closer to audiences of all ages and makes Fiorano Modenese, for a week, a small international crossroads for short films.
The 2026 edition of the Ennesimo Film Festival, the eleventh of the event, confirmed Fiorano Modenese as the Italian capital of short films for eight intense days, from April 26 to May 3. Over 50 events and 150 short films animated the Astoria Theatre, Villa Pace, the BLA library, and Piazza Ciro Menotti.
The program alternated between competition screenings, meetings with authors, and training moments at the Ennesimo Academy, in a dialogue between cinema, design, and new technologies that also involved the European Parliament and the Italian Space Agency as sponsoring bodies.
Competition sections: Official Selection, Affari di Famiglia, Sinofonie (in collaboration with the University of Bologna and UNISTRASI), Visioni Sarde, and Contemporary Design Film Award.
Among the most anticipated moments: the opening with Greta Scarano, the meeting on dubbing with Alessio Puccio (voice of Harry Potter), the workshop by Claudio Di Biagio, the dialogue with producer Carlo Cresto-Dina, and the collaboration with the Italian Space Agency on the COSMO-SkyMed satellite.
Fiorano Modenese can be reached by car from the A1 motorway (Modena Sud exit) following signs for Sassuolo and the ceramic district. By train, the reference station is Modena, then connected to Fiorano by the Modena-Sassuolo railway and local buses.
The heart of the festival is the Teatro Astoria (Via Vittorio Veneto 110); collateral events take place at Villa Pace, the BLA library, in Piazza Ciro Menotti, and in the historic center.
All events are free admission until seats are full. Full program and updates on the official website ennesimofilmfestival.com and on the festival's social media channels.
