The traditional motorcycle blessing that kicks off the riding season in the heart of South Tyrol
The Egna Motorcycle Blessing, known in German as Motorradsegnung Neumarkt, is one of the most popular motorcycling events in South Tyrol. Every year, at the start of spring, the historic center of Egna/Neumarkt (Bolzano province, Trentino-South Tyrol) welcomes thousands of riders who gather for the traditional blessing of their vehicles and themselves. The event is organized by the Moto Club Neumarkt-Egna A.S.D., a historic association founded in January 1979 by Kuno Bonatti.
The heart of the event is the religious rite: a priest imparts a blessing to the riders and their motorcycles, wishing them a season of road safety. The ceremony takes place in the picturesque historic center of Egna, famous for its ancient medieval porticoes that make the village one of the most distinctive in the Bassa Atesina region. In recent editions, the event has exceeded two thousand attendees, with riders arriving from across the region and neighboring provinces.
The Motorcycle Blessing is not just a moment of reflection, but a true celebration that symbolically marks the opening of the two-wheeled season. The program traditionally includes:
The event is regularly attended by local authorities, representatives of the Italian Motorcycling Federation, and local volunteer associations, reflecting the event's deep roots in the community.
Active since 1979, the Moto Club Neumarkt-Egna supports its riders in disciplines such as trial, motocross, hill climbing, and track racing. The Motorcycle Blessing is the club's signature event and one of the main motorcycling dates on the South Tyrolean calendar, drawing enthusiasts from all over Trentino-South Tyrol.
The 44th Egna Motorcycle Blessing was held on Sunday, March 22, 2026. The day's program featured the morning Frühschoppen starting at 9:00 AM with music and a welcome aperitif, official greetings at 11:00 AM, and the blessing of the motorcyclists at 11:30 AM, conducted by a priest in the village's historic center. The event, which is free to attend, reaffirmed its role as the season-opening rally for two-wheelers in South Tyrol.
