A Nativity Tradition Dedicated to Easter
The Easter Nativity Scenes of Penna in Teverina, in the province of Terni, are an artisanal exhibition held during the Easter period in the historic center of the village. The initiative is promoted by the Associazione Presepe de la Penna, with the aim of restoring the culture of the Easter nativity scene, a tradition that has almost completely disappeared.
The Six Scenes of the Passion
The heart of the event consists of six scenes handcrafted by nativity artists, which retrace the moments of the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ. These true masterpieces of nativity art transform the alleys of the historic center into a path of faith and contemplation.
The Permanent Artistic Nativity Scene
In the same location, the permanent artistic nativity scene can be visited: an area of about thirty square meters with two hundred statues, of which about one hundred and forty are animated, entirely made of wood. The figures, in traditional costumes, depict potters, weavers, and artisans engaged in daily activities. The association also maintains a traveling nativity scene exhibited in national and international exhibitions and a school for nativity art.
Easter Nativity Scenes — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Easter Nativity Scenes takes place in Penna in Teverina from March 30 to April 12, 2026, set up in the historic center by the Associazione Presepe de la Penna. The six artisanal scenes retrace the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ; alongside, the permanent artistic wooden nativity scene with two hundred statues is available for viewing.
The inauguration is scheduled for March 30, accompanied by a conference dedicated to the history and tradition of Easter nativity scenes.

How to Get Here
Penna in Teverina is located in the lower Tiber valley, in the province of Terni, near the border with Lazio. By car, it is accessible from the E45 and SS204. The exhibition is set up in the historic center of the village.
