The "A walk through time" tour among the treasures of Canosa di Puglia on Easter Monday
Easter Monday in Archaeology is the event where Canosa di Puglia, in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani (BAT), turns Easter Monday into a day of discovery for its immense historical heritage. Instead of the classic picnic, the Amici dell'Archeologia Association, in collaboration with the Fondazione Archeologica Canosina, offers the guided tour "A walk through time": a walking itinerary in the heart of the city that spans over two thousand years of history, from the Daunians to the Romans, and from the early Christians to the Normans.
Canosa, the ancient Canusium, is one of the cities richest in archaeological layers in all of Puglia. The guided route leads visitors to discover some of its most significant sites:
For the event, there is also a special opening of the San Leucio Archaeological Park, one of the city's iconic sites, which can be visited throughout the day.
The charm of this initiative lies in combining guided visits with the conviviality typical of Easter Monday. At the end of the tour, participants can enjoy set menus at participating restaurants to taste traditional Canosino and Apulian dishes. An experience designed for families, history buffs, and the curious, largely held indoors and therefore suitable even in case of bad weather.
Promoted with the patronage of the Municipality of Canosa di Puglia and the Apulia Region, "Easter Monday in Archaeology" is now a staple of the Canosino spring calendar. It represents a precious opportunity to enhance the archaeological identity of the BAT territory and to experience Easter Monday in an alternative way, dedicated to beauty, history, and Apulian hospitality.
For Easter Monday 2026, the Amici dell'Archeologia Association and the Fondazione Archeologica Canosina offered a new edition of the "A walk through time" tour in Canosa di Puglia. The guided visit, starting at 10:00 AM, led participants through some of the city's main monuments: the Mausoleum of Bohemond of Hauteville (12th century), the Scocchera B Hypogeum (4th-3rd century BC), the Cathedral of San Sabino (6th century), and the Roman Domus (1st century BC - 1st century AD).
The San Leucio Archaeological Park was exceptionally open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Participation in the tour required a contribution of 10 euros for adults (18+), with free entry for children and mandatory booking. At the end of the morning, participants were able to take advantage of set menus at participating restaurants for an Easter Monday lunch featuring Canosino traditions.
