The grand village banquet celebrating the start of summer along Corso Duca Luigi
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Early Summer Dinner is the event with which the village of Gallese, in the province of Viterbo (Lazio), officially welcomes the arrival of the warm season. The concept is as simple as it is effective: close Corso Duca Luigi to traffic and set up a single, continuous banquet table connecting Piazza Matteotti to Piazza Castello, allowing the entire community to dine side-by-side in the open air, in the heart of the historic center.
The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Gallese APS, the association that brings the town's calendar to life with its most iconic events, from the Renaissance Days to autumn initiatives. Local volunteers work at the dinner, handling the cooking, table service, and setup: it is a self-financed, participatory celebration, not a commercial fair.
The culinary offerings remain faithful to the rustic cuisine of the Tuscia region, with courses served at the table. In the most recent edition, the menu included:
The vibe is that of the most authentic village festivals: dinner is served as dusk falls, the tables fill with families, groups of friends, and visitors from neighboring towns, and the evening continues in the square with conversation and music. It is not an event designed for mass tourism, but precisely for this reason, it offers outsiders direct access to the daily life of a Tuscia village.
Gallese stands on a tufa spur between the Tiber Valley and the Cimini Mountains, a short distance from Civita Castellana and Orte. The village retains a medieval layout with the Castle of the Dukes Altemps, the Cathedral, and narrow alleys that open onto intimate squares: it is these very squares that, during the dinner, become an open-air dining room. Its proximity to the Magliano Sabina motorway exit and the Orte train station makes the village easily accessible from Rome and Viterbo.
Participation is exclusively by reservation, by the deadline set each year by the Pro Loco: seats are limited by the number of places set along the street. Reservations are collected at local shops with a deposit, or online through the association's dedicated store. Reduced rates are available for Pro Loco members and children.
The dinner effectively kicks off the season of Gallese events: in the following weeks, the town's calendar continues with other gatherings in the square, including the Renaissance re-enactments in July and festivals organized by local committees. Those planning a visit in June can therefore combine the convivial evening with exploring the historic center and the surrounding Tuscia area.
The official confirmation of the 2026 Early Summer Dinner in Gallese has not yet been published by the Pro Loco of Gallese APS. In the summer calendar of the Viterbo village, the Gallesefest in Piazza della Liberazione, organized by the San Famiano Festival Committee, is scheduled for the same period.
