Edition 2025 — Désarpa of Bionaz

The 2025 edition of the Bionaz désarpa celebrated, in early October, the ancient tradition of herds descending from the pastures. Among cows adorned with colourful bosquets, the sound of cowbells, the election of the milk queen and queen of the horns, and the tasting of local products, the festival renewed the Valpelline community's bond with pasture culture.

The Bionaz désarpa 2025, held in early October, reprised the ritual of the descent of herds from the high-altitude pastures of Valpelline. The cows, adorned with colourful "bosquets" and announced by cowbells, descended in procession to Bionaz, where the community welcomed the animals and herders at the end of the summer season.

The day featured the election of the "reina dou lace" and the queen of the horns, and concluded with the tasting of local products: pasture cheeses, cured meats, and Valdostan traditional specialities. Organized by Valpelline All Season, the festival reaffirmed its role as guardian of the rural and pastoral identity of the municipality of Bionaz, in the province of Aosta.

Programme

The 2025 edition featured the descent of herds from various pastures towards Bionaz, with a procession of cows adorned with bosquets announced by cowbells, the election of the "reina dou lace" (milk queen) and the queen of the horns, and the concluding tasting of local products (pasture cheeses, cured meats, and Valdostan specialities).
