The first Italian festival dedicated to geopolitics, in the heart of Ascoli Piceno
Demarcazioni - Festival of Geopolitics is the first event in Italy entirely dedicated to geopolitics and international relations. The event takes place in Ascoli Piceno, in the heart of the Marche region, and was created with a precise objective: to make the major themes that cross contemporary public debate understandable to a wide audience, from ongoing conflicts to energy routes, from European security to the challenges posed by technology and artificial intelligence.
For three days, the historic center of Ascoli Piceno becomes a large space for discussion. The meetings are spread across symbolic locations in the city: the Teatro dei Filarmonici, the Pinacoteca Civica, the Bottega del Terzo Settore, and the Libreria Rinascita. The festival offers over forty events and brings together about a hundred speakers, in a schedule that alternates talks and in-depth panels, book presentations, press reviews, exhibitions with photographic reports and geopolitical maps, documentary screenings, tastings, and informal moments of discussion with authors and guests.
Demarcazioni brings together experts in international relations, analysts, diplomats, philosophers, academics, and leading journalists. Among the guests of the first editions are prominent names such as Lucio Caracciolo, Nathalie Tocci, David Quammen, Tahar Ben Jelloun, Gianfranco Pasquino, and Pier Ferdinando Casini, alongside numerous journalists and correspondents who report closely on international crisis zones. Particular attention is paid to the involvement of local schools, with strong student participation designed to bring young people closer to understanding global scenarios.
The festival is promoted by the Demarcazioni Cultural Association together with the publishing house Paesi Edizioni, with the support of the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno, the Marche Region, and the Fondazione Marche Cultura. The choice of Ascoli Piceno, an art city in the southernmost province of the Marche, links a global theme to an urban context of great quality, with its Renaissance squares and famous travertine stone. Admission to all events is free, with reservations recommended subject to availability.
