The travelling theatre that brings free shows to the villages of the Piacenza Apennines
Sipario sul nostro Appennino is a travelling theatre project that, every winter, brings free shows to the most remote villages of the Piacenza Apennines. The initiative travels through various hamlets of the Municipality of Farini and neighbouring municipalities, in the heart of the upper province of Piacenza, in Emilia-Romagna. Its goal is to give small mountain communities an opportunity for meeting and culture during the coldest and quietest months of the year.
The most original feature of the review is the choice of venues: the shows are not held in traditional theatres, but in unusual and familiar spaces such as trattorias, bars, community centres, hostels, parish churches, and municipal council halls. It is precisely in these environments, close to the daily lives of the inhabitants, that theatre rediscovers its dimension of proximity and human warmth, transforming an inn's hall into a small village stage.
The programme is curated by the Quarta Parete Theatre Group and combines brilliant and ironic theatre scenes with moments of folk music and dance. Among the performers are the San Lorenzo Music Group and dance masters who directly involve the audience. The evenings are not simple performances, but real moments of celebration and community gathering, where spectators are often invited to participate.
Supported by the Fondazione di Piacenza e Vigevano and carried out in collaboration with the involved municipalities, the review is an example of cultural welfare: it combats depopulation and isolation in inland areas by bringing entertainment and social interaction where opportunities for meeting are rare in winter. Over the years, the project has reached dozens of different locations, choosing new and increasingly remote communities each time.
For visitors, Sipario sul nostro Appennino is also a special opportunity to discover the villages of the Nure, Trebbia, Tidone, and Boreca valleys: authentic mountain landscapes, made of stone and woods, where culture becomes a tool for community. All shows are free and open to everyone.
The 2026 edition of Sipario sul nostro Appennino, titled "Ritagli in Alta Valle", was structured over two weekends in February with six free shows by the Quarta Parete Theatre Group. This year's novelty was the presence, alongside theatre and folk music, of a pair of dance masters and the direct involvement of the audience.
The review, supported by the Fondazione di Piacenza e Vigevano, also involved the San Lorenzo Music Group and dance masters Anna and Sandro.
Six shows from the "Ritagli in Alta Valle" cycle, with theatre scenes by the Quarta Parete Group, folk music by the San Lorenzo Music Group, and dance moments:
The villages hosting the review are located in the upper Piacenza Apennines, particularly in the hamlets of the Municipality of Farini and neighbouring municipalities (Bettola, Ferriere, Corte Brugnatella, Alta Val Tidone, Zerba). They can be reached by car from Piacenza by taking the valley roads of the Nure, Trebbia, and Tidone valleys; given the mountainous nature of the area, a car is the most practical means of transport.
All shows are free and open to the public. For information on individual dates, you can contact the CSV Emilia secretariat in Piacenza.
As these are winter events in the mountains, warm clothing is recommended, and it is advisable to check road conditions in advance.
