About Cremona Contemporanea

For nine days, contemporary art invades Cremona, transforming historic buildings, private spaces, and unusual locations into settings for installations, exhibitions, performances, and meetings. Cremona Contemporanea is the widespread art exhibition that brings about twenty artists of different generations and approaches to the city, invited to engage with the urban fabric and its memory. Promoted by the Municipality of Cremona, it is a journey to be experienced on foot, through courtyards, noble palaces, and sites reopened for the occasion, with a rich program of events open to the city and visitors.

Art leaves the museums

Cremona Contemporanea is the widespread contemporary art exhibition that, every year, redraws the cultural map of Cremona, in Lombardy. For nine days, art abandons the confines of galleries and settles in historic buildings, private spaces, and usually inaccessible places, building a close dialogue between contemporary creation and the city's heritage. Promoted by the Department of Tourism and Events of the Municipality of Cremona and realized with curatorial artistic direction, the event enjoys the patronage of the Lombardy Region and the Chamber of Commerce of Cremona-Mantua-Pavia.

A journey to be walked

The heart of the exhibition is its urban dimension: visitors are invited to walk through the city, discovering works scattered among Palazzo del Comune, Palazzo Fodri, Palazzo Raimondi, and a network of private and independent spaces. Added to these are new locations reopened for the occasionโ€”a bunker, an abandoned monastery, a hidden theater, sacred buildings that have long been closedโ€”which themselves become part of the artwork, telling the layered memory of the Province of Cremona.

About twenty different voices

Each edition involves about twenty artists, chosen from different generations and languages, to offer a pluralistic view of contemporary research. The program alternates site-specific installations, exhibitions, performances, and meetings, building a balance between experimentation and reflection on the memory of places. An articulated curatorial team accompanies the artists in their engagement with the city's spaces.

An invitation to the city

Cremona Contemporanea is designed as an open and accessible event, inviting citizens and tourists to rediscover their city through the lens of art. It is an opportunity to experience Cremona in a different way, allowing yourself to be surprised by unexpected encounters between artworks and historically rich architecture.
