Contemporary art spread through the streets and palaces of the city
Cremona Contemporanea is the widespread contemporary art exhibition that, every year, redraws the cultural map of Cremona, in Lombardy. For nine days, art abandons the confines of galleries and settles in historic buildings, private spaces, and usually inaccessible places, building a close dialogue between contemporary creation and the city's heritage. Promoted by the Department of Tourism and Events of the Municipality of Cremona and realized with curatorial artistic direction, the event enjoys the patronage of the Lombardy Region and the Chamber of Commerce of Cremona-Mantua-Pavia.
The heart of the exhibition is its urban dimension: visitors are invited to walk through the city, discovering works scattered among Palazzo del Comune, Palazzo Fodri, Palazzo Raimondi, and a network of private and independent spaces. Added to these are new locations reopened for the occasionโa bunker, an abandoned monastery, a hidden theater, sacred buildings that have long been closedโwhich themselves become part of the artwork, telling the layered memory of the Province of Cremona.
Each edition involves about twenty artists, chosen from different generations and languages, to offer a pluralistic view of contemporary research. The program alternates site-specific installations, exhibitions, performances, and meetings, building a balance between experimentation and reflection on the memory of places. An articulated curatorial team accompanies the artists in their engagement with the city's spaces.
Cremona Contemporanea is designed as an open and accessible event, inviting citizens and tourists to rediscover their city through the lens of art. It is an opportunity to experience Cremona in a different way, allowing yourself to be surprised by unexpected encounters between artworks and historically rich architecture.
The fourth edition of Cremona Contemporanea takes place from May 23rd to 31st, 2026, for nine days of widespread contemporary art. Under the artistic direction of Rossella Farinotti, assisted by a group of curators, about twenty artists of different generations and approaches intervene in historic palaces and city spaces.
The venues include Palazzo del Comune, Palazzo Fodri, and Palazzo Raimondi, as well as private spaces like RobolottiSei, Fasarchitetti, and Galleria PQV, and new locations reopened for the occasion: a bunker, an abandoned monastery, a hidden theater, and sacred sites previously closed. The program alternates site-specific installations, exhibitions, performances, and meetings.
