Music, architecture and community in the historic courtyards of Pavia
Cortili in Musica is the chamber music festival by I Solisti di Pavia, the ensemble founded by Enrico Dindo, which is one of the musical prides of the city of Pavia, the capital of its province in Lombardy. The event takes place every spring, between May and June, and aims to bring chamber music to the most evocative locations within the city's historical heritage.
The common thread of the festival is the link between music, architecture, and community: the concerts are held in the courtyards of ancient colleges and in the historic palaces of Pavia, such as Collegio Cairoli, Almo Collegio Borromeo, and Palazzo Malaspina. Performing in these spaces, steeped in centuries of university and noble history, offers a unique experience where the beauty of the locations amplifies that of the music.
The program alternates different repertoires: from Mitteleuropean opera and operetta to string serenades, from chamber virtuosity to the masterpiece of Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Alongside the evening concerts, the festival offers free open rehearsals, which bring the audience closer to the musicians' work and make the experience more accessible.
Cortili in Musica is much more than a concert season: it is a way to bring Pavia's architectural heritage to life and to root great music in the city's life. The festival celebrates both the quality of I Solisti di Pavia and the identity of a university city that makes culture one of its distinguishing features.
The 2026 edition of Cortili in Musica, the 11th, takes place from May 20 to June 18 and celebrates the 25th anniversary of I Solisti di Pavia. Four main events are scheduled, hosted in the courtyards of colleges and historic palaces in Pavia, with a program ranging from Mitteleuropean operetta and opera to string serenades, culminating in Vivaldi's Four Seasons. Alongside the evening concerts, free open rehearsals bring the audience closer to the ensemble's work.
Pavia is connected to Milan by train (about 30 minutes) and by car via the A7 motorway. Concerts are held in historic colleges and palaces in the city center and in some locations in the surrounding area.
The festival takes place between May and June. Main concerts are ticketed (with reductions for under 30s and over 65s); open rehearsals and some concerts are free. Tickets available on Vivaticket.
