The masked parade among Italy's masks and traditional games
In Corsico, a town in the province of Milan overlooking the Naviglio Grande canal, Carnival is one of the most beloved festivals of the year. Under the title "Corsico a Colori", the event enlivens the historic city centre with a grand masked parade that starts from Piazza Europa and winds through the heart of the city, along Via Cavour and Via Manzoni, in a riot of colours, music, and joy. The festival is organised by the Municipality of Corsico together with Confcommercio Corsico.
The common thread of the parade is the traditional Italian masks: twenty of the most famous from the Commedia dell'Arte and regional folklore parade through the city streets, from Arlecchino and Colombina to the very Milanese Meneghino, as well as Rugantino, Gianduia, and Pulcinella, each representing a different region of Italy. An opportunity to rediscover a popular heritage that spans the entire peninsula.
Alongside the parade, the festival offers numerous themed areas designed especially for children: the space dedicated to Lego bricks with the "King of Carnival", traditional wooden games for all ages, soap bubbles, circus shows with jugglers, and then music, dancing, and group entertainment. The festivities conclude with the inevitable shower of confetti. In the preceding days, the municipal library offers animated readings for children.
The Corsico Carnival is much more than a parade: it's a time when the city comes together in the streets and families experience a day of celebration in the city centre. With the collaboration of local parishes and associations, the event confirms the vitality of a community that cherishes its traditions, just a stone's throw from Milan and the Naviglio Grande.
