The 10 km road race through the heart of the Marian city
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
CorriAMO Pompei is the road race that brings athletics back to the streets of Pompei, in the province of Naples, in the heart of Campania. This is not a race through the archaeological ruins; rather, it is a competitive 10-kilometre event that traverses the modern city—the one that grew around the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary—effortlessly blending devotion, daily life, and ancient history in just a few minutes of running.
The route measures approximately 9.9 kilometres and is entirely paved: a city loop designed more for personal bests than for the challenge of elevation. The start is located on Via Sacra, just a few steps from Piazza Bartolo Longo. The most photographed moment of the entire event is undoubtedly the passage through the square, the city's living room, with the bell tower and the facade of the Sanctuary serving as a stunning backdrop.
The first edition, held in 2018, was an immediate success with over 1,200 registered participants and early registration closures. The following edition, planned for 2019, was cancelled for organisational reasons, and the pandemic further delayed the race's return. It was only in 2025 that the event returned to the calendar with its second edition, held on Sunday, 22 June: 280 athletes started at 8:30 am from Via Sacra, with victory going to Yassine Zaki (International Security Service) in 28'04" for the men and Annamaria Naddeo (Running Club Napoli) in 34'58" for the women.
The event is organised by ASD Terra dello Sport, led by president Simone Vitiello, under the aegis of FIDAL Campania. The event is supported by the Municipality of Pompei and the regional CONI committee, with the collaboration of ASD Movimento Sportivo Bartolo Longo. Like most road races in the Vesuvius area, it is a machine largely powered by volunteers.
Those arriving in Pompei for the first time often associate the name solely with the Archaeological Park, one of the most visited sites in the world. However, the contemporary city has a distinct identity: it has been a destination for Marian pilgrimages since the late 19th century, thanks to the work of Blessed Bartolo Longo, and revolves around the square and the Sanctuary all year round. A road race that passes in front of the basilica and skirts the archaeological area perfectly captures this dual soul, made of tradition and movement: this is the formula the organisers used to present the race's return.
CorriAMO Pompei is a competitive race requiring federal membership, yet the atmosphere remains that of a local community event: large groups from clubs in the province of Naples and neighbouring provinces, finisher medals for all who cross the line, awards by category, and spectators cheering from the city sidewalks, especially along the square. For those looking for a fast, flat 10 km city race with an extraordinary backdrop, this is the perfect event.
At the time of writing, an official date for the 2026 edition has not yet been published: the race does not currently appear on the FIDAL Campania regional calendar. The reference period remains the second half of June, as in 2025. It is advisable to check for updates on the ASD Terra dello Sport channels and the federal calendar before planning your trip.
Official information for the 2026 edition of CorriAMO Pompei is not yet available. The date indicated on this page is therefore a provisional reference, based on the usual period of the event (second half of June), and not a date confirmed by the organisation.
The known elements of the race remain valid as a reference: an urban 10 km paved course, flat, starting from Via Sacra and passing through Piazza Bartolo Longo, organised by ASD Terra dello Sport under the aegis of FIDAL Campania and supported by the Municipality of Pompei. The programme, times, fees, and registration methods will be updated on this page as soon as the organisation publishes them.
By train: The Circumvesuviana (Naples-Sorrento line) stops at the Pompei Villa dei Misteri station, while the Naples-Poggiomarino line serves the Pompei Santuario station, a few minutes' walk from Piazza Bartolo Longo. The national Naples-Salerno line stops at the Pompei station in the city centre. By car: A3 Naples-Salerno motorway, exit Pompei Ovest or Pompei Est; the centre is about 25 km from Naples and 30 km from Salerno. On race days, some city streets are closed to traffic: it is best to arrive early and park in the designated areas around the Sanctuary.
Paid registration via FIDAL-affiliated clubs and running portals; in the 2025 edition, the fee was 12 euros with chip rental and 11 euros with a personal chip, with early closure upon reaching the participant cap. Check the regulations and updated fees on the organisation's channels.
The race takes place in June, early in the morning: a cap, sunglasses, and hydration are useful as the Campania heat is already noticeable by 9 am. Those arriving from outside the region can take advantage of the trip to visit the Archaeological Park of Pompei in the afternoon, or head to Mount Vesuvius and the Sorrento Coast, both less than an hour's drive away.
