Carpets of flowers in the medieval village for the solemnity of Corpus Domini
The Corpus Domini Flower Festival in Castiglioni di Arcevia is one of the most evocative events of the Marche spring. On the Sunday of the Corpus Domini solemnity, the streets of the medieval village of Castiglioni, one of the historic hamlets of the Municipality of Arcevia (province of Ancona, Marche region), are covered with designs, carpets, and compositions entirely made with petals and leaves. It is a rite of faith and community that has been renewed for almost twenty years, capable of attracting thousands of visitors from all over the region.
The 2026 edition takes place on Sunday, June 7, and is dedicated to the gerbera, a flower chosen as a symbol of joy and simplicity. The setup takes place on the night between Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, when the inhabitants dedicate themselves to creating floral designs using fresh and dried flowers and leaves collected and prepared in the previous months. The magic is revealed at dawn: the works are completed in time for the solemn mass at 11:15 AM, after which the traditional procession winds through the streets of Castiglioni adorned with splendid creations.
The Flower Festival is curated by the Gruppo Infioratori di Castiglioni, which brings together various groups of volunteers, young and old, engaged for weeks in collecting, cleaning, and drying small flowers. In recent editions, numerous different floral varieties have been used to shape the carpets distributed along the historic center. The collective work is an essential part of the event: the nocturnal preparation unites entire families and represents a moment of strong cohesion for the small community.
Castiglioni preserves the layout of the typical medieval castle of Arcevia: alleys, views, and stone architecture provide the ideal backdrop for floral designs. The Flower Festival thus enhances a historical and landscape heritage that characterizes the territory of Arcevia, a municipality in the Ancona hinterland known for its castles and peasant culture. The day, in addition to the religious program, is often accompanied by convivial moments that continue until the afternoon.
For the 2026 edition, the Gruppo Infioratori di Castiglioni has chosen the gerbera as its theme, a flower associated with joy and simplicity. The setup takes place on the night between Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7: village volunteers create designs, carpets, and compositions with fresh and dried flowers and leaves collected in previous months. The works are ready at dawn and accompany the solemn mass at 11:15 AM, after which the traditional procession takes place through the streets of Castiglioni, a hamlet of Arcevia (AN). Free admission.
