A festival that brings folk dance back to the square

The Contradanza Festival is one of the most recent and lively events in Fondachelli-Fantina, a small mountain municipality in the Metropolitan City of Messina, Sicily. The inaugural edition, held in the summer of 2025, turned the town square into a space for entertainment, music, and social gathering, bringing together over forty couples of dancers for a grand collective celebration.

The contradanza, a community dance

The heart of the event is the contradanza, a traditional group dance with deep roots, consisting of figures, crossings, and partner changes that involve dancers of all ages. A village between the Nebrodi and Peloritani

The festival takes place in a setting of great natural charm: Fondachelli-Fantina is nestled between the Nebrodi and Peloritani mountains, dominated by peaks such as Rocca Salvatesta.
